Counselor's Corner

Guidance

Sparks Elementary School has a full time counselor, Mrs. Laura Hudson.  Mrs. Hudson uses an educational approach to problem solving and is a resource in our school. She interacts with the students at Sparks by providing classroom guidance, assemblies, counseling groups, and individual referrals. Mrs. Hudson consults with members of the Sparks staff and is available for parent conferences in order to discuss individual concerns about your child.

Peer Mediation

The Peer Mediation Program was established to encourage students to work in cooperation with others and to be independent problem solvers. In order for students to solve problems of a verbal nature in a responsible way, there are three steps that each child needs to follow:

1. Tell the person to stop (if the behavior doesn't stop...)

2. Talk to the adult in charge. (if the behavior doesn't stop...)

3. Fill out a guidance referral form for Peer Mediation and place it in the pocket outside the guidance office.
